The Lovers - The material is a vessel to the light

2024 / plastic resin, gold/black painting, LED / approx. 500mm height each / wall mounted

"Les Amoureux" is a series of sculptures that explore the intricate interplay between light and form, with each piece symbolizing the intimate embrace of two lovers.

The light is infused into the sculpture as its primary texture, with the material surface acting as a vessel that contains and circulates the light. As the light travels through the intertwining paths of the sculptures, it integrates into their texture, casting mesmerizing shadows and highlighting their contours."

"Les Amoureux" celebrates the romantic relationship between the two forms depicted, portraying them as intertwined and reflecting each other's light. Each sculpture captures a distinct moment of connection, emphasizing how light, as a principal texture, can unveil hidden dimensions and amplify the beauty of surfaces.

Behind the radiance

extracting radiance from the materiality

2024 / plastic resin, Korean ink, LED / 1200mm circle

Minsang CHO attempted to amalgamate luminance with shadow through the circular continuum. By twisting the relationship between brightness and darkness, he sought to unveil the interaction between visibility and concealment, revealing the way we perceive light and shadow. Through this exploration, he aimed to capture the balance and contrast, showing how light and darkness are connected, and make people realize that they are indeed interconnected like a circle.

Behind the radiance is an illuminance sculpture born from an experimental pursuit - to craft a luminaire that illuminates not just its surroundings but also itself through the essence of the materiality. In this experiment, the surface characteristics of the sculpture take center stage. Reflectance and transparency become the protagonists. Artificial light, on the other hand, steps behind and plays a supporting role—a catalyst that coaxes out the radiance concealed beneath the material's depths.

Behind the radiance -

THE RIBBON

The Ribbon is a unique lighting fixture that showcases the flexibility and versatility of OLED technology. OLEDs are known for their thin and flexible nature, which makes them a great choice for creative lighting designs like the Ribbon chandelier. The light emitted by the OLED panels creates a soft and diffused glow that mimics the movement of a ribbon blowing in the wind, adding a touch of elegance and sophistication to any space.

The Ribbon was awarded LIT Lighting Design Award in 2018 and has been showcased in major international exhibitions including the Light+Building Fair in Frankfurt, Germany, and the Salone del Mobile in Milan, Italy.

The Ribbon has been commissioned for various commercial projects including Genting Highland Casino in Malaysia and Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten in Hamburg.

HONEYCOMB

HONEYCOMB is one of the few successful outcomes from our recent experiment to develop a luminaire that illuminates itself through its own materiality. The experiment focused on the interplay between the surface characteristics of the material, such as texture and reflectance. The use of artificial light serves only to highlight the hidden aesthetics that are buried under the surface. Consequently, the material itself creates the primary source of light, meanwhile the artificial light plays only the supporting role to enhance objects inherent qualities.

This approach represents a departure from traditional concepts of luminaire design that rely solely on artificial light source to build up brightness in the space.

Available for multiple production with 6 weeks lead time. Provided with ceiling suspension mount equipped with angle and height adjustable fitting.

Technical detail: made of 3d printed ABS / gold plated / 12W, 2700k LED
